Eric Nielsen

Eric Nielsen was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. He earned his Bachelor's Degree from the Evergreen State College and graduated Cum Laude from Seattle University Law School. After graduating from law school, Eric clerked for a King County Superior Court Judge and then joined a large Seattle public defender firm as a trial attorney. In 1985 Eric joined the Washington Appellate Defender Association, a public defender appellate firm. He eventually became the firm's Assistant Director and supervised its training program. Beginning in 1990, Eric has been a tribal attorney for the Quinualt Indian Nation and has represented the Nation on appeal in tribal, state and federal courts on a wide range of civil law issues.

In 1994, Eric founded Nielsen, Broman & Koch P.L.L.C. Eric has litigated over 700 civil and criminal appeals, which have resulted in over 100 published Court of Appeals, Washington State Supreme Court and Ninth Circuit decisions. Eric has argued over 30 cases in the Washington Supreme Court, including two death penalty cases.

Eric is member of the Washington Appellate Lawyers Association and is one of a small group of attorneys qualified under the Washington State Supreme Court's rules to handle death penalty appeals. Eric has spoken at a number of CLE's on appellate practice and Indian law issues. Eric is available for consultation or referrals.

Eric Broman

Eric Broman has been handling appeals for Washington clients since 1988. He has been a partner in Nielsen, Broman & Koch since 1997. He is counsel of record in well over 100 published appellate decisions and has handled hundreds of criminal and civil appeals in Washington courts. Eric received his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Florida.

Named one of Washington's best lawyers by Washington Law & Politics magazine, Eric is a frequent speaker on appellate practice and a committed advocate for ensuring access to justice for all litigants. Eric has served on the Bar Rules and Procedures Committee and is a founding member of the Washington Appellate Lawyers Association. From 1996-2001 Eric was elected to the Sierra Club Cascade Chapter executive committee. He is licensed in Washington and is a member of the United States Supreme Court Bar. David Koch

David earned his Bachelor's Degree in Journalism at the University of Missouri and his law degree at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Beginning in 1992, he served as Assistant Public Defender with the Alaska Public Defender Agency in Anchorage, Alaska. Following his tenure at the Agency, David moved to Washington and specialized in civil litigation with a prominent Seattle law firm. David joined Nielsen, Broman & Koch, PLLC in 1995 and became a partner in 2001.

David has appeared in more than 400 civil and criminal appeals, ranging from medical malpractice, to disability discrimination, to serious felony offenses. David was the subject of a 1999 Seattle Times article discussing his successes in a series of high profile cases. Washington Law & Politics magazine has named him one of the state's best appellate lawyers and he is AV rated (highest levels of skill and integrity) by Martindale-Hubbell. David is licensed in Washington and Alaska and is a member of the United States Supreme Court Bar. He lectures and publishes on appellate matters and has been honored for his pro bono activities. He is available for referral, consultation, and as amicus curiae.

Christopher Gibson

Chris graduated from The Evergreen State College in 1982 with a B.S. in Marine Science. After a ten year career establishing and developing commercial fish farming operations on the west coast of the United States and Canada, Chris turned to the law, graduating Cum Laude from Seattle University School of Law in 1995. Thereafter, Chris joined Nielsen, Broman & Koch, PLLC and is currently a supervising attorney. As a supervising attorney, Chris, oversees and edits the work of several other experienced appellate attorneys. During his tenure with the firm, Chris has appeared in over 250 civil and criminal appeals resulting in over 25 published decisions. In 2002, Chris was recognized as one of the most promising new lawyers in Washington by Washington Law & Politics magazine.

Dana Nelson

Dana Nelson was born and raised in the greater Seattle area. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Communications from the University of Washington. In 1998, Dana graduated Magna Cum Laude from Seattle University Law School. She joined the firm in 1998. As an associate, Dana has argued and won a number of cases in the Court of Appeals and the Washington State Supreme Court. She was named a Rising Star in the December, 2002 issue of Washington Law and Politics magazine.

Jennifer Dobson

Jennifer earned her Bachelor's Degree in History and Master's degree in African American History at the University of Washington. Jennifer earned her law degree from Seattle University, where she distinguished herself in legal writing and appellate advocacy. After graduating from law school, she clerked for Justice Charles Johnson of the Washington State Supreme Court. Jennifer joined Nielsen, Broman & Koch, PLLC in 2001 and has since appeared in numerous criminal and civil appeals. In addition to her appellate work, Jennifer teaches an African American legal history course at the University of Washington.
